Kumara Guruparar was a 17th-century Tamil saint-poet known for his devotion to Lord Murugan and for composing Kandar Kali Venpa, a celebrated hymn sung at Thiruchendur. Born mute, he miraculously gained speech by invoking Murugan’s grace. He traveled widely, spreading Shaivism and Tamil literature, and established the Kasi Mutt in Varanasi, restoring temples and engaging in interfaith dialogues. Revered for his scholarship and spiritual service, his legacy continues through his writings and inspiring life. Now available as a beautifully crafted 14" paper mache doll for your Golu display.

Did you know?

Kumara Guruparar is often depicted sitting on a lion to symbolize his fearless oratory and spiritual power. According to tradition, he rode a lion into the Mughal court at Delhi, demonstrating divine grace and courage while upholding Shaivism and Tamil culture. This iconic imagery reflects his role as both saint and spiritual warrior, triumphing over ignorance and adversity through devotion to Lord Murugan.

If you are creating a Murugan theme, consider adding Kumara Guruparar to your collection — a poet-saint whose life and hymns are deeply connected to Lord Murugan’s divine grace.
