"Thiru-nindravur" literally means "the place where the Goddess stood". It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi waited here for Lord Vishnu before they entered the sanctum together—hence she is lovingly called "Ennai Petra Thayar", meaning "the mother who accepted me."
The temple is ancient and revered by Alwars, particularly Thirumangai Azhwar, who praised the Lord’s boundless affection for His devotees.
